Short-Term Rentals

Business Licences are now available.

SHORT-TERM RENTAL BUSINESS LICENCE REQUIREMENTS

Short-term rentals are allowed in principal residences only. This is where you usually live, conduct your daily affairs and receive mail

Requirements to obtain a business licence include:

* Strata bylaws supporting short-term rentals in your building

* Landlord permission, if you're a renter

* Meeting fire safety standards such as installation of interconnected smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and a fire safety plan

*Ensure your guests understand and abide by parking, noise and garbage and recycling regulations.

*Displaying your valid business licence in your unit and on all listings and advertisements.

Here's a copy of the Responsible Short-Term Rental Handbook.

A valid Business Licence must me obtained by August 31, 2018 to avoid fines. The fine to list a short-term rental without a valid license is $1,000 per day.

The City of Vancouver allows both owners and renters to rent their principal residence for stays under 30 days. You'll need a business licence before you can operate or advertise a short-term rental. Applying online is quick an easy, and you'll need to meet certain requirements.
